Powerful Weakness

12/20/2016

2 Corinthians 12:9
“‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” (NIV)

This  bible verse keeps you from thinking it is about your strength, and realize the perfection and power of God. Keeping your pride in check helps us to realize that your perceived weaknesses are major places for God to show up and be glorified. When you tell yourself I cannot do this I am not enough, Jesus died for you to give the the strength and power to live inside you the same power that rose Him from the dead. You are weak and unable to get past your shortcomings alone, but thankfully He came down to rescue you when you were in trouble. He became vulnerable and paid the price for you so you can be restored in His strength. Your shortcomings only glorify God, His grace covers your failures and His strength is how you get past your pitfalls and temptations.

The 2 Corinthians 12:9 helps me personally put things in a better perspective and put God in His rightful place as the lead being in control. It is only through His grace am I able to do anything. This verse is not as popular as Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength,” but sometimes when reading the Philippians verse I misinterpret it and have a tendency to put myself before Christ, thinking about how I can do it if I just work harder and view Christ is more of a helper. The all-powerful, all-knowledgeable God should not be a side thought. He is everything! I am weak and it is His strength that is doing the work. Both verses are complimentary and it is Him not us doing the heavy lifting, but for me right now 2 Corinthians is putting both God and myself in the appropriate place. It is only through God’s strength that we can move past our weakness. He has a greater degree of perfection that can be only be achieved by His strength. You are unable to do this alone.

Thankfully you do not need to hide your inability and weakness, your shortcomings allows God to be able to use you in powerful ways. When you take this dependent posture  you are strengthened by Christ. People around you realize that the results were from God. The same hardships will be there, but when you rely on God, and trust Him in those areas, He is glorified. His strength comes because He is gracious enough to give it.
