Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
I know for most of us still vividly remember big tragedies in our life, and it brings up questions. We may know and feel God's reckless love, but those tragedies are still burned in our hearts. We know they are not His perfect will, but He still allowed it to happen. It does not always make sense. How could 9/11 and the Twin Towers crumbling be good? Children seeing the destruction on repeat on every channel to be the last thing they saw every night. Watching people trapped and panic, people dropping out of the buildings. The dust cloud that rested and continued to diminish air quality noticeable for months. Rescue workers dying at the scene and getting debilitating diseases afterwards as a result of the smoke and destruction. How could families getting destroyed be good? How can death, disease and severe injuries? It does not seem to add up.
Seeing those images from 9/11/2001 again does not make it any easier. Our country has major problems, and tragedies strike often. Whether natural disasters or terrorist attacks, there always seems to be something going on. Jesus is weeping and sees the destruction and chaos, but the enemy tries to use these events to tear us apart, cause fear and chaos. Instead after these event unity is often the answer "unite we stand." There is a deeper sense of community and suicide rates drop in fact in London after 9/11 they dropped by 40% and it was the lowest suicide rate in 25 years(1). When tragedy strikes there is an increase in unity, this is not what Satan wants. God is always victorious. Every attack from Satan does not yield the results Satan is unsuccessful. "You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world." (1 John 4:4 NIV)
Although when the suffering is personal, no amount of earthly punishment or saving someone else's life can bring back your loved one, but learning more about God's heart and having your faith grow is tremendously important. Your life can be better and more fruitful after tragedies. Those disasters in make us different people and we learn to preserve through these events. Our character is build and we gain hope. We are growing to have unshakeable hope and faith. "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." (Hebrews 11:1, NIV) It may not add up to us, but look at Job , who was more prosperous after Satan attacked, and it was not just because He had more children or possessions, it is because after He learned God's heart. He had a deeper understanding of God's heart and His generosity for nothing in return. The events in life do not add up to us, but God knows what He is doing. There is a plan specific for you. He weaves your life together perfectly to benefit you and forms you into a great person of faith. He does all of this in complete and perfect love. Nothing will stop God from loving you no price, no wall, NOTHING. He will come after you full of love. He loves passionately in tragedy, in everyday life, when you are scared, when you are worried. You may feel trapped with no escape, but He is with you loving you and He has a plan to escape and prosper. He will chase you down and fight for you. He is reckless with His love even in His anger with the injustice He knows that you are one of His sheep, you will need Him to find the way back, and He will make a fool of Himself running after you leaving the 99 for you. There is no obstacle that God cannot overcome. He will do anything for you, and does everything for your benefit.
