Know God to Know Yourself

Knowing God is paramount to finding out why He made you and the intricate personality you have. You are made in God’s image, in order to get to know yourself you need to know Him your creator. He is alpha. He is the starting point to figure out who you are.

The foundation of our knowledge of God rests upon knowing what He is like. Without understanding God's attributes, you will have a skewed perception of Him. You have a Holy perfect vast God who is perfect. He has a multitude of characteristic including: faithfulness, wrath, just, immutable, jealous, omnipotence, and omniscience. Really looking at the Word and seeing His character in action and how it perfectly comes together to create your Holy God.

One way to study the character of God is during your normal Bible reading underline or write down characteristics you see. Looking at His passion and His interactions with people.

Another way to study the character of God is to search verses online about the attributes of God in general. You could also search for each attribute of God and read a bunch of scriptures on each attribute i.e. His faithfulness, then move on to the next characteristic. This will help you see God’s word for each one and get a better understand of how His character is a holy and different than any other person. God is perfect every aspect of Him, but He only make sense when viewed together. If there is an attribute that you have a hard time acknowledging I would recommend praying to the Holy Spirit to help reveal the truth on the attribute and spend some time reading bible verses and what other people have written about that characteristic. This extra time has helped me to get a better understanding of His Holy, perfect character and I encourage you to really dig deep into who He is. This will not only help with your faith and personal walk in a traditional way, you will also start to see yourself clearer.

Learning these aspects will allow you to understand the template you were made from. You will see the dynamic characteristics that are inside of you. God has given you the gift of knowing Him. He's given you His identity, His sufficiency, and His qualifications. Additionally, as you learn about Him and learn who He is, you can see His heart and the scriptures display God at a deeper level since you know Him at a deeper level.
