How to Obtain Lasting Confidence

2/26/2018

This is what the Lord says:
“Cursed is the one who trusts in man,
     who draws strength from mere flesh
     and whose heart turns away from the Lord.
That person will be like a bush in the wastelands;
     they will not see prosperity when it comes.
They will dwell in the parched places of the desert,
     in a salt land where no one lives.
“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord,
     whose confidence is in him.
They will be like a tree planted by the water
     that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
     its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
     and never fails to bear fruit.”
~ Jeremiah 17:5-8 (ESV)

We all have times in our life were we have felt hopeless and feel insecure. You are not alone, and there is a way to leave that tiresome, destructive cycle behind! First, we need to look at what your cycle is. Did things spiral out of control due to a change in your money, beauty, body, health, significant other, or job? These things are good things, but each of these things can change in an instant without any warning. Each can be deceptive thinking that this is what you need to be happy. It can lead you down a path of always trying to get something that is just a little bit out of reach. You think you are about to achieve your goal, and ultimately happiness, only to realize it is a little bit further away. This is a destructive way of life and can leads to insecurity, doubt and hopelessness. Instead, we need to shift our focus from these fleeting things or ideas to everlasting truth. Thankfully, our God is unchanging, and we can turn to His truthful, life giving words. Those deceptive thoughts that tell you that value comes from anywhere else other than God need to be replaced with His truth! He provides hope when everything seems dark. With God’s truth, we no longer have to listen to what society tells us is perfect or correct. We can stand with our Father and stand against culture, resting on His unchanging word! He is able to weather all the storms. You can begin to see your true value and develop true confidence built on God. You do not need to do anything to earn His love.  ”Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?” (Romans 8:35, ESV). He is the perfect father who will never leave you high and dry. He will be with you in ever season. With Him you never have a no reason to fear, leaving you filled with hope. It is not an overnight fix, it takes a while for your roots to grow into His stream, but those roots are worth the time.  As your roots grow by staying in His presence and keeping His Word on your mind, you will grow deep into His strength and His love that there will be no room for fear, anxiety, worry, doubt or insecurity. Your roots will have you firmly planted in Him and in His strength, where you are prosperous and always fruitful. When you are connected to your life source there is no shortage of abundant, everlasting confidence. When your complete confidence and trust is in God You can declare, “ I can do all things through him who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). He is your unfailing strength, hope and confidence. Rise up and face life’s issues with God, in Him there is nothing that cannot be overcome.
