Lent is almost here! It starts on Wednesday February 10th this year. Lent is a time when a lot of Christians prepare for Easter and refocus on Jesus. Jesus’ 40-day fast in the desert helped him to resist temptation and begin his ministry. It is great to use lent to give up something and getting away from distractions before Easter. When we empty ourselves from distractions, we can hear God more clearly and get more connected. I have done various things to prepare for Easter including reading my bible, having only liquids, writing a letter to 40 influential people in my life, and giving up all sweets. This year I have been praying and trying to hear what God wants, I am feeling called into boldness and out of fear.
For lent, I will be sharing Jesus with 40 people (one a day). I typically become fearful of what others think and afraid that I will say something wrong. I know that my identity is secure in God, but in the moment I get panicked when the opportunity arises. Sometimes I give in and other times I am bold enough to talk. I have never had a bad experience, but my feelings are real and something that no longer has a place in my life. My fear has been getting in the way.
One more thing is to start a weekly intercession phone call for Los Angeles. Intercession is a powerful, selfless prayer to stand the gap and bring down God’s power. I am definitely excited, and nervous about what is in store. God put Los Angeles in my heart so every Monday at lunchtime during lent I will hold an intercession phone conference that anyone can join. As Christians we have a responsibility to take ownership, care for our cities, and be a part of the solution. There are too many people who do not understand the battle that is raging, but God loves His great city of LA and wants to see transformation! Doing this is outside my comfort zone, but I am excited to see renewal in LA. Only God knows what is in store though. I may be the only one on the phone calls, either way I will go, do it passionately, and see if anyone joins. This is where God is calling me, and spending blocked time in intercessory prayer will be great.
