Yes, I Want This!

No Longer Slaves

1/8/2016

I do not know about you, but I am having an amazing start to 2016! Church on Sunday was no exception, the worship was incredible . This Sunday I immediately fell in love with a new worship song. So much so that I that night when I got home I bought it and made a playlist to surround the song. I know that most people get tired of songs when they hear them a lot, but I typically listen to songs repeatedly and do not grow tired of them. They just move to #2  on the playlist when I find a new song.
The worship team played “No Longer Slaves” it was so perfect the Spirit was moving, and I could feel the passion all throughout the song. The lyrics were so momentous and I always feel like there are times in worship that the lyrics are so powerful, but the meaning can get lost, so I wanted to take the time to explain some of the reasons why I love this song so much and how it reinforced biblical truths to me.

First of all the repetition of singing, “I’m no longer a slave to fear” is by itself so moving to me. I definitely still have some fear of what others think of me, but I have grow bolder by realizing God’s unconditional love for me as I grow as a Christian.  His love is so perfect, no matter how bad I mess up not only is He not ashamed of me, He still loves me and calls me His.  I just felt like every time I was singing I could feel His presence reminding me of scripture ”Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”- Deuteronomy 31:6. Then the next time I sang it, I would feel His peace, ”Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” - John 14:27.

The partnering of “I'm no longer a slave to fear; I am a child of God” in the song just reinforces this concept and is freeing.  My perfect Father protects me. ”When I am afraid, I will put my trust in Thee. In God, whose word I praise, In God I have put my trust; I shall not be afraid. What can [mere] man do to me?” (Psalm 56:3-4). What do I have to fear? Nothing no person no worldly thing can do anything to break my relationship from God. As much as Satan’s job is to destroy our relationship, his plans backfire like they did with Job causing a deeper relationship between him and God, and causing Job to be a famous encouragement for countless Christians. God is the only opinion that matters and we are His. We are loved and accepted so we can freely express ourselves as children do running around, jumping, dancing, and twirling with no shame. We are children no matter how old we may feel, we can still be reckless and crazy with our worship.

“All my fears were drowned in perfect love
You rescued me
So I could stand and sing
I am child of God”

He did so much for us to be able to stand and sing that we are His children. He had to turn His back on His perfect Son. He had to pay for His love for us, but we pay nothing it’s a gift. Not only is the gift of eternal life something to be overwhelmed by thinking about the joy that comes from being able to stand and sing is amazing. Anyone who has had injuries or illness knows that those little things feel amazing that improvement provides a release to appreciate everything our perfectly designed bodies can do.

“You have chosen me”
Being chosen for anything gives a greater sense of self worth for most people whether is getting picked for a team, or being chosen as a winner. It typically allows you to recognize yourself worth. We are chosen by the King of Kings! It is amazing not only have I been called, but chosen. “For many are called, but few are chosen." (Matthew 22:14) This is something that I need to remind myself as I tend to define my self-worth on worldly things, which is too fickle. God’s love is the only thing that truly validate us and give us purpose and meaning to our lives.

Keeping the focus on God and keeping His Kingdom in mind I encourage you to utilize songs. They are very influential, not only with their beautiful repetition, but they can change your mood. I truly encourage you to do is to put together an awesome playlist that gets you refreshed and feeling His presence. Everyone has different music tastes, but make a playlist that reminds you of biblical truths whether it because your upbeat playlist to workout, a mellow mix for the morning, or something to calm you down in traffic. Make one for yourself to continually remind yourself of Godly priorities.

Do you have any songs you are in love with right now?
