For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. – 2 Timothy 1:7
God gave the Holy Spirit to us. He lives in us. This should not make us timid or afraid; we should be bold in His power. Through His amazing power, we are able to break away from fear and desires of the flesh. We are not slaves to impulses of the flesh any longer. Everyone has desires rooted in gratification of the flesh, which are normal, although they do not have to control you. God gave you His power to dwell in you to keep you free from addictions and from being dissatisfied.
He came to save your soul from the heavy burden of compulsion. God wants freedom for His children. He wants you to be in control of your actions, and your mouth. He is able to teach and train you with the Holy Spirit to get self-control. No longer feeling like we cannot help it. When we continue to seek Him, we go through a teaching process. Some people have immediate transformation, while others have a longer process. If you fall in the second category, do not worry you have good company. The apostle Paul wrote, “For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me” – Romans 7:18-20. Paul’s struggle with sin was real! He had to counteract everything with God. Paul was shackled by his fleshy desires and impulses, but through God’s amazing grace, and power He could have self-control. Paul, by himself, could not trump his flesh, and neither can you. You have to recognize you cannot do it, only God can.
This God-given self-discipline you receive, allows balance to enter into your life because you are no longer shifted one way or consumed by anything. God wants to maintain balance in your life and keep you from being bonded to anything. There is great joy and satisfaction that comes when you are freed and claim your God given self-discipline in your life. Continue to fight your desires with the Holy Spirit.
