Go in the Strength you Have

Judges 6:14 “Go in the strength you have”

This bible verse by itself can be encouraging thinking about God being your number one cheerleader rooting for you and telling you to act. But let’s take a second to read the verse just before this in Judges 12-14

When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.” “Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are all his wonders that our ancestors told us about when they said, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up out of Egypt?’ But now the Lord has abandoned us and given us into the hand of Midian.” The Lord turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?”

When we read the verses just before this we realize how little strength and faith Gideon had in himself, but that does not stop God from thinking Gideon was still His man. He did not change his mind and go try someone else. He said, “go you are ready just as you are.” It is obvious that Gideon did not think highly of himself and he did not have a resume that warranted God’s mighty man of valor comment, but God knew Gideon and chose him. He used him despite everything Gideon thought about himself. When God sends us he equips us with His strength. We do not need to be a finished product to go out, we just need to be with God.

I do not know if you are like me, and have feelings of not being good enough, but this exchange is so encouraging thinking about the all-powerful, all-knowing God still believes in someone who is like me. Gideon does not understand everything, does not feel good enough and not prepared for what God just told him. It definitely helps me to realize that it God’s plans are not linear about first understanding and getting a big picture if He says to go, GO! It does not need to be in an order that seems logical to us. He is infinitely wiser than us and He knows we sometimes need to act and He will direct us along the way.

One more thing I want to leave you with today is that alone you are not enough and you are not perfect, but that is great! That is how God can use you. You alone are not enough but you have more than enough because the spirit of God dwells in you. The power that conquered the grave and rose Jesus from the dead lives in you. We let God have the ability to do amazing things, when we let Him use His strengths and be in control. Use this biblical encouragement the next time you question yourself, God really does use our weaknesses and does not expect us to understand everything. So do not fret about your inadequacies all you have to do is go, God is with you mighty warrior!
