What the Bible says about you - Identity Series

5/10/2019

We need to really examine what the Bible says about us as a framework to refer to throughout our life. We can easily get caught up in what media and cultural norms tells us, but really we need the Truth, we need God’s Word.

There are things that are true, but not the Truth about you because they change. For example, your age, your marital status and your job. You may be 35 year old, married women, mother of a 2 year old child, works for GEICO and enjoys yoga, which could be true, but will it be true next year?
This means that in order to really get to know your identity it has to be build on God’s Truth, that does not change. We look to God, who knows you inside and out, created you with a purpose, and knows every detail of your body. Here are some Bible verses about your identity, God’s confidence in you and God’s love for you.

Exodus 3:11-12
But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” And God said, “I will be with you.”

Psalm 8:3-6
When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor. You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet.

Isaiah 43:4
Since you are precious and honored in my sight,
    and because I love you,
I will give people in exchange for you,
nations in exchange for your life.

Isaiah 49:15-16
“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast
and have no compassion on the child she has borne?
Though she may forget,
    I will not forget you!
See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands;
your walls are ever before me.

Isaiah 61:3
To bestow on them a crown of beauty
    instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
    instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
    a planting of the Lord
for the display of his splendor.

Zechariah 2:8
For thus said the Lord of hosts, after his glory sent me to the nations who plundered you, for he who touches you touches the apple of his eye:

Zephaniah 3:17
The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.

Matthew 5:14-16
You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Matthew 10:29:31
Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

Luke 15:3-7
The Parable of the Lost Sheep
Then Jesus told them this parable: “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.

John 1:12
Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

John 10:10-11
"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. "

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

2 Corinthians 5:20
We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.

2 Corinthians 6:19
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

Colossians 3:12
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

1 Thessalonians 5:5
You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness

2 Timothy 1:7
For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

God knows what you need to hear on your journey. Really let these reminders sink in deep into your heart.

God says you are worth His life. He lowered himself to nothing for you. You are significant and worthy of love. He extends His unfailing, unrelenting love to you. He gave you this gift of life for a purpose. He wants to restoration of the whole earth and He has a beautiful plan for you given by grace. You have a unique purpose that you are designed for perfectly. You do not need to do anything for God to love and accept you. Your personality was on purpose and He is excited about every part of you.
