Who God Says You Are

7/18/2018

You are not a sum of what you have done! God knows everything you have done, yet still does not define you that way. He sees your limitations, but He calls out something greater in you. He sees your heart! He zeros in on what makes you tick. He knows your limitless potential with Him. He calls you into a God sized dream that He knows you can handle. You may have a list ready to disqualify you, but God is the one who qualifies and accurately sees everything and does not see you as a pile of your past action

God is always full of compassion “as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us” (Psalm 103:12). When God looks at you He does not see you as a sum of your sins. His grace removes our sins making you free. You are no longer attached to sin because of His steadfast love and mercy. He invites us to “ approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16) When we are confused and in pain we can boldly come before Him as His children to get help from His gracious, unfailing love.  He knows you are in a battle and He knows that you need Him. He knows everything you need and knows the foundation comes from a strong understanding of what He says about you and who He is.

God created and formed you. He knows every intimate detail about you at every given moment! As we read, you may see some verses stand out and you begin to get a deeper revelation of His immense love and passion for you. You may have been speaking other thinks over yourself, but you have a choice to change your narrative to reflect His truths about who He says you are or continue to speak words contrary to God’s Word. You may be like me and feel insignificant perhaps like a mess up or failure. You may have to declare His Word  over yourself and remind yourself that “no word of God will ever fail.” (Luke 1:37)

Some scriptures about who God says you are:
  • You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. ~ Matthew 5:14-16
  • We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us ~ 2 Corinthians 5:20
  • Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky ~ Philippians 2:14-15
  • You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness ~ 1 Thessalonians 5:5
  • You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. ~ 1 John 4:4
  • Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. ~ Matthew 5:15
  • But that is not the way you learned Christ!— assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.~ Ephesians 4:20-24
  • Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,” says the Lord, who has compassion on you. ~ Isaiah 54:10
  • He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. ~ Psalm 40:2
Everything we hear, we weigh based on the source, looking at their knowledge and their credentials. For example if an acquaintance with a memory problem who cannot remember anything past 5 seconds told you, “You are the nicest person they every met.” you would take it very differently than, a fully healthy spouse or family member saying the same exact thing. If you have read tons of verses about the love that God has for you, and the care and concern He has for you, but it seems untrue and you shrug it off, you may want to take a different approach. Maybe you need to take the time to look at what the bible says about who God is. God is Holy, all knowing, all powerful, and perfect. He has a long list of characteristics such as compassionate, caring, faithful, immutable, just, jealous, wrathful and loving that we read about in Scripture. He is a loving, all-powerful Father who has a beautifully orchestrated story for your life. It will not make sense, but since you know His character you can trust Him.  As you uncovering different layers of His personality through reading, you get to know God. He is complex and you will never fully understand Him (no one will), but as you consider how much God knows, His words start to hold more value to you. As you learn who God is you are better able to see yourself., since you are created "in his own image"(Genesis 1:27) As you break off lies you will begin to see God's truth on your life and see the similar attributes you share with your Father. He has designed you with a purpose and as you learn the vast love God has for you, His words begin to shape your life.

That dream you have inside of you relies on you knowing God and being in communion with Him! Life is a battle and there is an enemy trying to get you to listen to lies. Thankful God gives us His Word to remind us who we are and more importantly get to know the source!

God knows you and loves you!

I have been losing a lot of times. I have experienced looking differently to God and questioning my faith. One thing that is for sure is that we will always go back to him. There were times that I really wanted to end this, I wanted to go back to him, but I do not know how and when. Unfortunate situations will happen and suddenly finding yourself back to him is such a miracle. There is always hope and life, it is just a matter of time and experience.
